Dental Sedation
Safe, Personalized Sedation for Dental Care
At Powell Valley Dental, we understand that every patient experiences dental treatment differently. That’s why we offer sedation options designed to reduce anxiety and provide a more comfortable experience. Whether you're nervous about treatment, have a sensitive gag reflex, or require a more complex procedure, our team will work with you to find the right solution.
Sedation isn't necessary for everyone but for the right patient, it can transform the dental experience. Our primary goal is to treat you in a calm, safe environment while helping you feel completely at ease.
Is Sedation Safe?
In short - yes. Sedation dentistry is considered very safe when provided by trained professionals in a controlled setting.
At Powell Valley Dental, we carefully screen each patient’s health history to determine the best option and closely monitor you throughout your procedure. For the vast majority of patients, the risk of complications is extremely low. Lower than many everyday medical procedures.
Your safety is always our highest priority, and we’re happy to walk you through every step so you feel confident in your care.
Types of Sedation We Offer
We offer two proven sedation options at our practice, each suited for different needs and levels of anxiety:
Nitrous Oxide
(Laughing Gas)
A mild, inhaled sedative that helps patients relax during treatment. Delivered through a mask placed over the nose, nitrous oxide works quickly and wears off rapidly, allowing you to drive yourself home afterward. It’s a great option for patients with mild anxiety or those undergoing shorter procedures.
General Anesthesia
(Sleep Dentistry)
Used for complex treatments, surgical procedures, or patients with significant anxiety, general anesthesia renders the patient completely unconscious. It is administered and monitored by a trained professional in a hospital or surgical setting. This option is recommended only when necessary and is based on a full medical evaluation.

The Next Step to Stress-Free Dental Visits
If you’ve been avoiding dental care due to fear or discomfort, you’re not alone and you have options. During your consultation, we’ll review your health history, talk through your concerns, and help you determine whether sedation is right for you.
Our mission is to deliver exceptional care in a safe, supportive environment so you can get the treatment you need without unnecessary stress.
